I was explaining to a friend of my wife what books I've read over the last year. She told me about this book, insisting I would like it. I was critical at first. I'm not a big fan of the editing. It seemed rough in spots. I had to re read sentences at times and the book had many long chapters that could have been sectioned. But something happened. I found the story and the two main protagonist rather compelling. I did not put the book down for long and my criticisms diminished. I'm not one to reveal the story when giving an honest review. I leave that for others. My honest opinion is this a book worth reading. So my friend was correct in her assessment. I'll let her know when I see her.Product details

I enjoyed the book but it had a few quirks. The book was pretty predictable from the beginning. Some of the wording was a little off at times too. The description of the love making scenes were strange at times.
I need more Black Raven books!!! I’ve read them all and can’t get enough! Was happy to learn about how Brandon & Taylor connected and was captivated from the first page. Now I understand what happened to Andi & Sebastian as well. Wonderfully written!
This book was amazing and I didn't want it to end! I hope to read more books by this author. The story line was very intense and captures your imagination from the beginning. The plot is very well written and has so many different types of subjects, i.e.,legal, murder, ship building, scientific, etc. Congrats Ms. Barcelona on a good thriller!
Liked the premise behind the story. Too much sex. It is okay to do it. But to
read page after page, BORING. Started skipping toward the end of book.
Having read fiction for lo these many years, Ms. Barcelona stands out among this new wave of authors. For those who crave depth of emotion, steamy interaction and intelligent dialogue - this is a new author for you. While perhaps the historical aspect was a bit wordy - I'd rather skim a bit than be bored to tears. *Angsty* is a word I see in many reviews but I prefer depth of emotion. Certain emotional aspects could perhaps have been a bit more developed, others wrapped up a bit more tidy but for a first novel - impressive. Looking forward to the next book to see who the yummy Sebastian finds for his story.
I enjoyed this book and the mystery although I did figure out pretty early on who the murderer was. It had a great mystery, interesting historical aspect and a decent love story. I really didn't like Taylor though. The whole virginity thing seemed really stupid and unrealistic. It just added to the whole snooty, rich girl persona that I thought the author didn't want to portray Taylor as. I also really struggled to understand her firm and staunch belief in her father despite the evidence to the contrary and the way he treated her the whole book. It just seemed like a way to get Taylor and Brandon to fight which was so incredibly annoying. I love reading romantic suspense because straight romance is too over-dramatic, unrealistic, and irrational to me. With romantic suspense you get just a little bit of the romance that I crave, but a great mystery or murder mystery to go along with it and since the romance isn't the main point it's not silly and over-dramatized. This had just a little too many story telling elements from a romance novel for me to say I loved it. The murder mystery in this book somewhat made up for that, but I had a hard time with Taylor's character.
This is the first Barcelona novel I've read. And I'm torn as to whether I'd give it 3 1/2 or 4 stars if half stars were a possibility. If you're looking for a suspense and romance novel that's an well done here it is. I enjoyed this and found it an easy, quick read. If you're a Karin Slaughter fan, which I am, you may enjoy this author. I think Slaughter's books are slightly less carnal in their descriptions of romantic relationships between the main characters, but I still enjoyed the progression of the love story in 'Deceived.' I'm reading Barcelona's next book now. Definitely enjoy when a writer knows a region and makes it part of his/her story as Barcelona does here w New Orleans. And I also found her character development, while at times predictable, quite enjoyable.
